'Hall tree' construction quite the endeavor

Around 1907, the entranceway of every Victorian house was graced by a bizarre bit of furniture known as a "hall tree." The basic model was sort of tall chair with hooks for coats, and a bench seat that opened up so you could store your galoshes inside.
